“My work explores the intersection of nature and emotion through unconventional materials”
My name is Steven Becker, and I am a visual artist based in Los Angeles, California. In my quest to capture the essence of my emotions and experiences, my art navigates the realms of industrial materials like wood and metal. These mediums not only facilitate but also showcase deconstructive processes, leaving a tangible residue of my creative journey.
Drawing inspiration from Abstract Expressionists and their commitment to non-figurative art, I transform my ideas into abstract expressions that capture my innermost experiences. My work explores the intersection of nature and emotion through unconventional materials in my attempt to veer away from traditional painting. I aim to create a dynamic tension between abstraction and feeling, along with intriguing manipulations of light, shadow, and depth. This approach results in a unique visual language that not only conveys my emotional landscape but also reflects the world around me.
My pieces, which frequently operate as a recollection or a moment of sensation, deal with the ideas of personal experiences, grief or other feelings, as well as the being moved by a particular scene or viewpoint. The goal is to depict the universe and my emotions through the processes of reduction and renewal, life and decay, reality and memory.
